The overall number of global Covid-19 cases is gradually nearing 633 million.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 632,438,082 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,581,228 on Sunday morning.
The US has recorded 98,055,537 cases so far, while 1,092,606 people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.
India’s daily Covid-19 caseload on Saturday decreased to 2,119, officials said.
According to federal health ministry data released on Friday morning, 2,119 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,638,636 in the country.
With the reporting of fresh cases, India’s active caseload currently stands at 25,037.
The country also logged 10 related deaths in 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,953 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.
Bangladesh reported zero Covid-linked deaths and 216 fresh cases in 24 hours till Saturday morning.
The country’s total fatalities remained unchanged at 29,411 as no deaths were reported during the period. With the new infections, the caseload rose to 2,033,878, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
The daily case test positivity rate rose to 5.87 per cent from Thursday’s 5.82 per cent as 3,680 samples were tested during the period.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45 per cent and the recovery rate rose to 97.20 per cent.
